Episode 60: Anna Robinson: Steps Towards Healing and Eradicating Racism in the Therapy Community

Racism. We like to think that it doesn't exist anymore. I mean, it's 2020. Racism surely isn't continuing on, right? Wrong. Unfortunately, racism impacts so much of our daily lives that we often don't even acknowledge it unless you are directly impacted by the oppression of systematic racism. Anna reached out to share hard truths, her emotions, processing through such unfair and unjust situations. What I love about Anna's approach to life is her ability to hold both parts- This is hard and traumatic. AND, I can do something about it in my own community. Her ability to make change in her own community and desire to help others is admirable. " Hi! My name is Anna, honestly, I just really like books. I am really late to this love. During my childhood I could not stand it. For book reports in school I would only pick books that have a movie associated with them because if I didn’t finish the book I could watch the movie and write my report. I did not get A’s on these reports as I could not go into too many details but I would get a solid B.

Fast forward a few years, I was 25 years old. I had just had my first child, my son Jeremiah, and my mom came to stay with me. She came to help my husband Joseph and I take care of the baby and she kept talking about this book she had read called Heaven Is For Real by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent. (Ironically, this book was later turned into a movie). I decided to download the Kindle version of the book and read it on my iPhone during feedings. I loved this book so much. It was so refreshing during a season of great change for me. This prompted me to read a few more books on my phone during the night.

Fast forward sixteen months and our second child, my daughter Audree was born. I did the same thing, remembering how reading was a good way to past the time as I just had to sit and nurse. Somehow, I just really started to like books. Being a busy mom of two, I am not always able to sit down but I desire to finish the books I start. So I got an audible.com account and started listening to audiobooks. This opened a whole new world for me. With audiobooks I can tackle a story so much faster. You also almost always get the intended tone of the writer. Throw on some headphones and you can listen all day. I decided to start this blog to share some of my favorites of both."
